A reliable genius powertool for my note-taking?

While I love to check-out almost every possible writing tool, on the long run a few only make it into the daily workflow. Thus I was admittedly skeptical when I saw yet another – with even the presumptuous mark as One-Note replacement and for this price. After some reluctance and learning curve I finally tried it for preparing complex courses and for note-taking in meetings. I was surprised to find how playfully easy it is to integrate lots of different material, thoughts, lists, tables in a free-style arrangement on the pages. Much like really writing on paper or organize stuff on my desktop. Even with colorful graphic embellishment like arrows and circles. After three months of steady use, now I see: ▶︎ Good? – This is a one of it’s kind hybrid writing and organizing tool which is perfect for all my initial note-taking, brainstorming and integration of multiple source stuff. ●Especially I like the instant free-style Tables and lists which can be converted back and for with one-command. ● I had to assign keyboard-shortcuts to all frequently used commands to make it a smooth experience. ●Even for aesthetics it remains a fresh in color joyful experience day by day. ●And what I do with it could not be achieved with any of my many other tools. ▶︎ Better? – It is, however, not replacing the other specialists either. I probably wouldn’t try writing an entire book or essay with it; nor long-term storing my entire life’s notes and resources. I prefer others for complex mind mapping, data mining, storage, sheer writing and layout. ▶︎ Reliable? – So far I never lost data. But I take precaution. Like with all my apps I use ForeverSave2 to take regular snapshots, additionally to TimeMaschine backups. ▶︎ Fun? – Daily. All said, doing so much for this price. Amazing. I wish it a long life.

Thrilled with it!!

Growly Notes 1 got me through my first year of MacBook ownership. Brilliant and just overloaded with great features. I was just doing a survey of current Notes apps for OSX and iOS and I was delighted to see Growly Notes here with a major recent update. I have great confidence in this app and its author and would have purchased this at 3x the current price.

Great notetaking app!

I used this program throughout optometry school and can definitely say I’m grateful for it. It helped me organize my notes by semester, class and day. Now in clinic I can refer back to my notes with ease thanks to the organization. I back up my computer regularly about every 2 weeks, in case Growly crashes and I lose all my work. That has only happened once and I recovered it no problem. Overall, fantastic app! Deserves 5 stars for its program and the developers.

Excellent program!

When I finally moved from Windows to OS X about three years ago I needed a replacement for MS One Note. Growly was one of the first things I picked up in the first few days of transition. I could not be more pleased. My recollection is the first version was free and the Version 2 upgrade probably cost all of $4.99 (going from memory, I did not even check today to see what it currently costs). For what you get, that is still “free”. The ease of use is great. I do not know how many different notebooks I have now, I start a new one for a wide range of purposes to document things and remind myself of account information for other software, purchases of gear etc. I do not often do reviews, but decided I just had to come back here and add to the positive reviews. I have not looked at any of the other reviews. It is hard to imagine what could drop it down to less than four stars, but impossible to think of one star.

Versatile app, Responsive Dev

Ive been looking for a replacement for AquaMinds NoteTaker, which is said not work in OS X 10.10+. (Im on 10.9) Growley Notes is equal to or superior to NT in most ways. One feature that I miss is the option to show the extension of linked files. I like that one can put notes side-by side, for example, and that tables work, though I would prefer that cells be outlined. There are many options, but its not always clear where to find them. (There is an extensive Help). For example, you get to a Formatting Panel via the menus, you find a WorkBench menu item under the View Menu, not the Edit Menu. Luckily there is a keyboard shortcut (CMD-K). I had several questions and the dev was very helpful.

Great Notes Program

It’s really hard to find a notes program that works OFF the cloud, and Growly Notes was the answer to my long search for an app that does. Was hesitant to buy because there’s no demo, but I am very glad I went ahead and purchased it. It’s got a ton of features, and is a quite a deal at $4.99. Just a couple of the features I appreciate: - checklists - simple password protection - ability to move text and images any where on the page The developer is also quite responsive to any issues. Best productivity app I’ve picked up in a while. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!

Not as good as it looks

Based on the screenshots and reviews, I had hoped this would be a good replacement for OneNote, but the tabs in the main shot aren’t different notebook sections, they’re different notebooks. The actual note taking process feels a bit fiddly compared to OneNote and there’s no OneNote import (while they complain about MSFT being "convoluted beyond belief," it seems Outline doesn’t have a problem with it - though Outline does cost 8x more). All in all, if you’re getting started or starting over from scratch, this seems like a great option and a great bargain. If you’re coming in with a collection of OneNote content you need to be able to use and edit, you’re probably better off with Outline.
