Excellent app. Better than OneNote. Has everything. I’ve been using it for a three years now.

For me now (Im using Growly Notes since the 1.0) , the product has enough capabilities and reliability to be my main notes management tool. Rich capabilities and simple tool : Exactly what I was looking for since 3 year. It is the product to have for users that used in a previous Windows life Microsoft OneNote(™)
Nicely done, excelent alternative to OneNote. Really appreciate the encryption feature Looking forward to the iOS companion apps.
I use Growly Notes to save things from the internet like recipes, photos, ideas for school & work that I really want to keep. Back when I had a PC, I used One Note. It was the only program I really missed from my PC days. Growly Notes wiped that missing piece away. I love Growly Notes and I hope to continue coming up with ideas to use it more. Highly recommend!!
Worked well for a little while, crashes frequently now. I’ve sent error reports, but nothing seems to be happening
Excellent app. Better than OneNote. Has everything. I’ve been using it for a couple years now. Not experiencing any crashes in OSX Yosemites 10.10. Seems to (still) be running fine.
Growly Notes has all the features I could ask for and is very stable on my Mac. The backup feature also make it especially safe to use. Hats off to the dev for continuously improving this GREAT app, while keeping the price so low.
Notebooks and notes are very well organized: search, keywords, links between notes, links to files, annotations … . Math in notes. Export. Growly Notes for iPad. I use Growly Notes at home and at work as a daily journal and for projects development. Can’t think about something to add. Switched from Circus Ponies Notebook. Update 2016-04-29: I just found out that the development and support of Growly Notes for iPad was terminated. The app even removed from the catalog and store. What a disappointment. It seems that it is hard to rely on Growly Birds. Time to migrate back to plain text - Emacs and the Org mode will do.
The app works great, everything advertised on the site is true. There are several minor problems that do not hinder functionality but can be spotted by a demanding eye, but I give 5 starts without hesitation. For existing users: It looks like the goal of version 2 is to eliminate limitations that made some usage patterns impossible. For example, an apparently simple task of tracking anime could not be comfortably carried out in version 1, but improved tables in version 2 allow for that. It is a very good idea to upgrade. For new users: This app allows to organize almost any data. It is not a full fledged text processor, nor a powerful drawing tool, nor a feature rich outlineer, but a bit of everything above arranged for the ease of use and simplicity. There are no features that aim at maximum scalability like nested notes, or elaborate regular expression based search, or scripting support. However, I have not reached its scalability limits yet, it looks like it can hold more data than a person, or a small group (yes, it supports collaboration), can manually collect or input over years.
I paid my $4.99 and updated to 2.0. The draned thing crashes every time. Restarted my system, and it still crashes. I emailed the error report to the developer (Chris Mason). Let’s see what happens. For now, I SOL! NOT RECCOMENDED.
I’ve happily used this app for a few years now and told all my friends about it - hardly any of them listened, though. I’m so happy it’s now on the App Store and more people can find this great product. When I stumbled across this program several years ago, it was the cure to my OneNote separation anxiety. OneNote was the only program that kept me on Windows longer than I wanted. When I finally switched to Mac six years ago, I sorely missed OneNote and searched desperately for a replacement. For several years, I tried all sorts of programs, even the “notebook” layout in Word for Mac, but nothing fit well. Somehow I stumbled across Growly Notes and it was everything I’d been looking for. I rely on this daily. It just works! It always opens quickly, never quits unexpectedly, autosaves, and I have never lost any data (knock on wood) - everything a Mac program should be :) Even though I’ve got gobs of clipped articles, pictures, URLs, etc, I can find whatever I need through the search bar. My only complaint about the search feature is I wish it was a live search, but it works just fine. I also wish the text formatting and highlighting options were quicker and easier to access. The developer updates regularly and communicates well. If you’ve been searching for a OneNote alternative, this just might be your answer! It was for me.
A great Note taking app for Mac! Although I still had to run Paralle Desktop to use OneNote for my serious electronic lab notebook keeping (I am just much more use to Windows version of Office), I use Growly Notes for many of my other needs for taking notes. I was so amazed that such a complex app was put out by just a one person developer! Since my husband is also an IT guy but he had never put out any apps to solve many of my real life demands, I think what Chris did is so wonderful! I did find that when I reopen my old notes in version 2.0, some of the Chinese texts become radom symbols but somes don’t. Luckly I don’t have too many of Chinese notes but it will be great if it can get fixed!
Best notes…keeping slices of life for the mac. I am glad the developer is maintaining and adding new features. Great product!!! I will be waiting for a notes iPad version….. Thanks Chris!!!
After switching over from PC, the one thing I sorely missed was OneNote, which effectively stored all my notes/messages/templates/ANYTHING into one app. Thankfully, Growly Notes pretty much has all the functions of OneNote (albeit without Skydrive sync) at an affordable price. Love all its functionalities so far.
I am a medical student that has been using this app for over six months now, and it just keeps getting better. The customer support is excellent, and the features have now reached a comparable level of the major corporation level software for pennies on the dollar. I feel the app is way undervalued and everyone should give it a try!
I discovered Growly Notes over a year ago when I was searching for a Microsoft OneNote replacement. I was unhappy with all the programs I had found until I discovered Growly Notes. It is the application that most closely resembles OneNote in its ease and flexibility. Now it has added syncing! I use this for ANYTHING that I want to keep as far as notes - production notes, "how-tos" notes on classes I teach. It is perfect for everything. I no longer care if there is ever a OneNote for Mac because I have Growly Notes!!
Recently upgraded to 2.0, Growly crashed, my notebook became corrupted and would no longer open. Lost about 12 hours worth of work. Customer support (“Chris”) got back to me within 10 hours with instructions I could try to recover my notebook (outside the normal “back-up” option Growly has built in…which only recovered my notes from 24 hours ago, not the 12 hours of work I had done since then). His instructions worked and I got my notes back at the exact point they were when growly crashed. Can’t give it 5-stars because the crash was distressing and I lost a few good hours of productivity time last night, but I will say that they were very timely and professional in getting back to me. I was impressed. He said an update will be released in the App store shortly that should fix this problem.
A long-time fan of Growly Notes, I was happy to pay for the new version. I did run into one problem, which is that I somehow managed to delete all the pages in one section—which shouldn’t be possible—and from there on things got seriously buggy. I got an immediate response (as always) from Chris Mason, the developer, sent him the file to look at, and he’ll be remedying whatever I did, which no one else has managed to do, within 48 hours with a new release.
Ive been using Growley Notes for about 7 months now (since before the release of version 2 on the App store). The previous version of Growley notes seemed much faster; simply scrolling through pages would be seamless and quick. Since updating to the new version, the entire app seems much slow -- scrolling stutters constantly, the app claims that the notebook is unable to be saved and wipes out the saved file (requiring me to retrieve the auto-back up files). In general, I regret having updated. Note that most of these issues occur when importing large PDFS (~50+ slides, which many pictures), so if your usage is similar, I would recommend waiting until these issues are resolved before purchasing version 2.
This is one of the best apps for taking notes on the Mac. I came from OneNotes on Windows to find the Mac empty of good notes apps, but when I found Growly Notes, I was home again. This is a wonderful program!
